Born on a sultry July dawn, in a small verdant town called Quilandy in Kerala, India, Ranjit Laxman is today a fairly feted photographer. He could well have internalised the very first images that impacted his vision as torrential rains that pounded his native landscape before displaying squeaky clean images lit by brief interludes of dazzling sunlight. This ‘hunter-gatherer of natural light and candid moments’, with a distinct presence on various photographic platforms on net and has been a CNN iReporter since September 2013, having submitted around 25 reports so far, two of which were transmitted on TV. Ranjit prefers to use nothing other than the same camera and lens millions of people use worldwide, yet his images are clearly distinctive from the rest.
Declining the tripod, he captures evanescent moments within quintessentially balanced frames, on handheld camera. One of these images made its way to the National Geographic ‘Sunday Stills’ selection. A die-hard perfectionist, he believes that Nature designs impeccable frames all the time and all one needs, is the passion to recognise and preserve her bounteous offerings. Candid shots are equally his forte and these tend to emanate a timeless aura, springing from an unbidden response to a moment that was conceived for eternity.
